BLOOM WHERE YOU’RE PLANTED

Sometimes inspiration comes from places you least expect it.

I have a cyber friend named Tom. We’ve been email buddies for years, mostly exchanging jokes but occasionally passing a quick line to update the other on our activities. Tom and I have never met. We once attempted to put a face with a name but as fate would have it, our paths failed to connect. At least not physically. I still consider Tom one of my best friends. A kind soul with a good heart and a zest for life.

On the downside, because of Tom, I’m an addict. He’s introduced me to something I can’t resist. It’s too powerful, consuming my days . . . and my nights. I’m helpless, an unwitting victim of the drug called “Words With Friends”. Someday I’ll make up my mind to beat it, but I’m not ready for recovery yet. Not til I win a few more games.

Tom and I  recently had a text conversation where I admitted DH and I might end up staying in North Carolina. Or more probably closer to the coast in South Carolina since that state is kinder to retirees and offers lower property taxes. Now this would be of little consequence if it were not for the fact that Tom and his family are living my dream in Arizona. Just saying the name makes me sigh with contentment. Arizona. Arizona. Arizona. Ah, did you feel that? A Zen moment.

I lived there during another life (ten+  years ago) and promised myself I would die there. My children know the box canyon where they are to scatter my ashes, although at the rate of recent construction, my ashes will probably fall into someone’s backyard. Still, the memories call like a Pied Piper, reminding me that I once resided in God’s country.

So as I was bemoaning my fate, Tom uttered those four little words that completely altered my perspective. “Bloom where you’re planted.”

How many of us go through life living in the future world of “someday when” instead of embracing the here and now? How many are so fixated on a plan or goal that they fail to recognize it’s outdated? The only way to survive with any sense of enjoyment is to be flexible. To bend in the wind. Or as the lyrics go in that wonderful song, The Gambler, by Kenny Rogers, “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away and know when to run.”

So starting today, I’m going to sit in the sun, water my roots, and bloom where I’m planted . . . no matter where that turns out to be.

RED HOT and DANGEROUS

Are you ready for a sexy Romantic Suspense? RED HOT and DANGEROUS is releasing May 1st, exclusively at Amazon for only 99 cents! Here’s the blurb:

RED HOT and DANGEROUS
Romantic Suspense – Heat Level 3.5

When Andie Lange accepts a one day temp job through her friend’s employment agency, she unwittingly brings back more than a paycheck.

It’s supposed to be a “fun” assignment – assisting a famous actress during a publicity junket, as well as an opportunity for Andie to network her new photography business. But between the Promotions Manager accusing her of spying for the tabloids and the unwanted advances from a handsome stranger, the day proves to be more trouble than it’s worth.

Unfortunately, things go from bad to worse. The actress is poisoned, and  the handsome stranger turns out to be investigating detective, Drake Slater, who is assigned protective duty when attempts are made on Andie’s life. She’s connected to the murder - she just don’t know how or why.

There’s no denying Drake Slater is a cool drink of water on a hot day but the man is a womanizer. Andie recognizes his charm for what it is . . . a way to seduce her. So why isn’t she putting up more of a fight ?

Drake Slater learned a long time ago police work and relationships don’t mix, but that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the company of  beautiful women. The key is not to stick around long enough for them to get any ideas. His plan works flawlessly until he meets Andie Lange, a gorgeous redhead with legs that go all the way up to heaven. Forced to protect her from an unknown assailant, Drake discovers there’s more to the sassy photographer than her body.

After Andie’s photographs reveal the identity of the murderer,  police rush to make an arrest, only to discover he’s been killed, too. Realizing the assailant’s next target is Andie, Drake must take extreme measures to keep her safe.

With her life in jeopardy, the only thing Andie fears more than the killer is the heat of desire aroused by her bodyguard. She’ll need to keep her wits about her and take a lot of cold showers if she’s to survive . . . because Drake Slater is RED HOT and DANGEROUS!

WINNERS! And more news . . .

Congratulations to the two winners who entered my contest at The Romance Reviews! Gwen H. and Caroline T. received copies of my Urban Paranormal, The GATEKEEPER, from the Clans of Tagus series. Speaking of which . . . the second book in the series, The WARRIOR, is scheduled for release around mid June.

Other news . . . My alter-ego, Alexis Thomas, will be releasing her first erotic novella, Nice Girls . . . DO!, next week. It’s the first in a naughty series called Dark Pleasures.

I’m in the process of tidying up another romantic suspense I wrote a few years back. Hope to have it ready for fans of Stone Cold Justice next month. It’s tentatively titled (say that 3 times real fast, tentatively titled, tentatively titled, tentatively titled) Red Hot Danger. Set in Phoenix and the stunning  red rocks of Sedona, it’s a sexy thriller about a hunky Alpha cop trying to protect a photographer who unknowingly snapped pictures of a murder. I’ll save the rest for the blurb.

Lots of good reads coming your way! Stay tuned!

Zombies. It’s the next big thing. Vamps and Weres are holding their own but Zombies in post apocalyptic tales are definitely hot right now.

So I’d heard the buzz about Deadlocked by A.R. Wise and decided to give it a try. Holy Moly…and then some. Mr. Wise has several books on Amazon right now. Deadlocked is the first in a series. If you enjoy this book, you’ll want to definitely pick up Deadlocked 2, 3 and 4.

And if you like zombies, you’re going to like this fast paced novella about a father trying to reach his family during a zombie outbreak. There’s no down time with this one, folks, so make sure you carve out enough time to finish the book before you start reading. It’s addictive. It’s action packed. Well written with realistic characters. And this is coming from a reader who is not a huge fan of zombie plots. Make sure you check out the author’s comments at the end of story. Fascinating!

Spring Break Must Read number 7 …. A big winner! And best of all, for a limited time it’s FREE on Amazon!

Deadlocked by A.R. Wise

That’s the end of my 7 Books in 7 Days blogs series for Spring Break. Hope you enjoyed them and found some interesting new authors to try while soaking up the sun on ”sum beach”.

Spring Break Must Reads – Day 6

7 books in 7 days . . . .Spring Break Must Reads!

Day 1 – Her Highland Champion by Alexa Bourne

Day 2 – Moonlight on the Nantahala by Micheal Rivers

Day 3 – Legends of Tsalagee by Phil Truman

Day 4 – Two Moons of Sera by Pavarti K Tyler

Day 5 – Mending Fences by Lucy Francis

Day 6 – Sharpshooter by Kit Prate

I’ve heard Westerns are making a comeback, which surprises me since I didn’t realize they’d gone away. I like the Old West. While living in Arizona, I became entranced by lanky cowboys in worn boots and a duster. That probably explains why some of my favorite movies are Westerns. Books . . . not so much. Contemporary cowboys transfer well to the page if you’re writing romance or erotica. But historical westerns are a different animal.

Kit Prate nailed it with Sharpshooter. She’s a storyteller first, which is important for this genre. She knows how to take clichéd characters (good guys, bad guys) and make them believable while weaving in classic old-fashioned values, moral code and strict sense of justice.

This is a coming of age story about young Clete Benteen. He’s only 14 years old when his father’s murder forces him to grow up in a hurry. Intent on seeking revenge, he must also find a way to provide for his mother and siblings. As a sharpshooter, he can do both by riding for a power hungry judge with a band of hired guns. Ms. Prate does an excellent job demonstrating the youthful folly of a teenager who is dealing with serious life issues, but never allows the tale to sound like a dime store novel.

It’s a short story, only about 7000 words, but that doesn’t interfere with the quality of this author’s style.
