MEET THE AUTHOR: Cheryl Douglas
Help me welcome author, Cheryl Douglas, who is here to talk about her sexy series, Nashville Nights.
Cheryl, you gave up a career as a nutritionist to become a full time writer. What was the final catalyst that pushed you into a life-altering decision?
I’d been writing for years, and I dreamed of being able to do it full-time, but like most people, I was afraid of the unknown. I’d built a successful business that I was proud of, but when the time came to renew the lease on my commercial space, I knew I couldn’t commit to doing it for another five years. It was time for a change. I’ve never been as happy as I am now, so I’m confident I made the right choice.
Nashville Nights is an 8 book series. What is your personal favorite of the group and why?
I love the first book Shameless, probably because that was the book my sub-conscious had been begging me to write for years. The hero in that book, Trey Turner, is like so many of the country music singers I’ve read about or admired over the years. He’s the culmination of years of day dreaming and I truly do adore his character. He has a huge heart, loves deeply, but he’s also flawed. He’s made a lot of mistakes and the road to redemption is bumpy, but it was also a lot of fun helping him find his way back from the brink of despair.
You have a second series, Nashville Nights – Next Generation. How is this series different from the first?
Even after eight books, my loyal readers weren’t ready to say good-bye to the characters they had learned to love, nor was I. By the time I released the sixth book, we got a glimpse of who these characters were as the parents of adult children. That’s when it hit me. Nashville Nights – Next Generation. The characters we got to know in Nashville Nights (the original series) as the parents of adult children who are their own journey to finding their soul mate. This series is all about family, friends, and deep connections that have withstood time and a lot of drama. I love being able to re-visit my favorite characters from the first series. As a writer, that’s not something you have the chance to do very often, so I’m really enjoying this part of the process.
Okay, I just have to ask…. Shameless (a Garth Brooks song) has a character named Sierra Brooks. Intentional or coincidence?
Honestly, I’ve never even thought about that before! I love Garth Brooks, but that was a total coincidence!
When I read a romance novel, I often find myself visualizing the hero with physical attributes of a famous personality such as my current favorite, Chris Hemsworth. Who is your fantasy dreamboat? (BTW, I love the photo album on your website which has “inspiration” pictures of your characters.)
I’m so glad you liked the photo album. We intend to finish that very soon. I’m a visual person, so I love watching the characters and scene
s come alive with pictures. Because so many of my characters are country singers, I’ll have to go with a country singer on this one. J.T. Hodges. You may not know him yet, but trust me, once you’ve seen him, you won’t forget that face.
Um… need I say more?
And now for some off-topic fun . . .
You’ve found a magic stone with the power to transport you to any time, any place. Where are you going and why?
I’m going to Maui, Hawaii. It is my favorite place in the world (so far), and I’ve always said I intend to go back there one day. Unfortunately, it’s a long flight, and my nine year-old can’t handle more than four hours on a plane yet.
Check out the titles in the Nashville Nights series. If you enjoy these, be sure to look for Nashville Nights – Next Generation.
