Between truth and deception, between justice and abuse, a stonewiser stands alone with the stones. Or so begins the stonewiser’s oath. But what happens when a rebellious stonewiser discovers that lies have tainted the stone tales?

In a world devastated by the rot’s widespread destruction, only the tales preserved in the stones can uphold the truth and defend the Goodlands. In this world, stone truth is valued above anyone’s word, and stonewisers are the only ones capable of retrieving the tales from the stones, the only link between past and present, order and chaos.

Sariah is the most gifted stonewiser of her generation, but her talent does not atone for her shortcomings. A survivor of the Guild’s brutal training, she is curious, willful and disobedient. Yet not even Sariah is prepared for what she finds when she steals into the Guild’s Sacred Vaults: A mayhem of lies and intrigues that shatters her world.

Hunted, persecuted, and betrayed, Sariah must make an unlikely alliance with Kael, a cynical rebel leader pledged to a mysterious quest of his own. The fate of their dying world depends on their courage to overcome centuries of hatred and distrust. But not even the grueling journey has prepared them for what they are about to discover. Because nothing is really as it seems, and the truth is more intricate and devastating than they ever suspected….

Sariah’s reward for revealing the stone truth: a death sentence.

The executioners have arrived and Sariah, the most powerful and controversial stonewiser of her generation, has been judged and condemned to death. For the last few months, Sariah has been hiding in the Rotten Domain, trying to find the elusive tale capable of uniting a divided people teetering on the brink of a catastrophic war. As she is dragged to the nets, where an eel rave has been stirred to maximize her execution’s gruesome spectacle, Sariah knows she cannot escape her sentence. She is guilty of the crimes for which she’s been condemned and no one, not even Kael, the Domain’s foremost rebel leader, can save her from the executioners’ righteous justice.

But Kael is more than just a formidable warrior; he is also a cunning strategist and Sariah’s steadfast lover. Risking all he has, he bargains with the greedy executioners, bribing them into delaying Sariah’s execution, buying her precious time and a last chance to realize the mysterious legacy that the stones have imposed on her. The agreement is hardly a reprieve. It encourages a mob to hunt Sariah for ransom, banishing her from the Rotten Domain and imposing heavy fines on anyone who tries to help her. Worse, it requires her to wear an irremovable, mysterious bracelet. If she doesn’t return to the executioners with the tale in hand when the allotted time expires, Kael and his kin will be ruined and the bracelet will kill her.

Hunted by the executioners, the Guild and the Shield, Sariah and Kael embark on a desperate search. Their journey will take them to the depths of the Rotten Domain, where Sariah must wise a guiding beam out of the wild tale stored in a stone-carved game. The beam will lead them through the warring Goodlands—where the rot is on the move—to the land beyond the Bastions, where a zealous people guard an ancient stone that could hold the key to their search. Along the way, Sariah and Kael must overcome deadly traps, torture, heartbreak, agonizing defeat and devastating losses in a desperate attempt to avoid war and answer the mysterious call of the stone.

Fantasy Romance, Dark Fantasy

Publisher: Mermaid Press

ISBN: 978-0979968235

Book Description:

“Do you know why the stones grieve?” the woman said to Kael. “Not for a soul, I’ll tell you that much. The stones don’t grieve for the passing of a lowly woman or the madness of a smitten man. They don’t mourn death, or lost love, or broken dreams, or loneliness or despair. Yet you will make them wail. For you, the stones will weep.”

In their most perilous adventure yet, Sariah, the rogue stonewiser who stunned the world by discovering lies in the stones and defying the all-powerful Guild, and Kael, the rebel leader who against all odds loves her, must find a stolen child, the only one capable of setting rule upon chaos, preserving the future of stonewising, and defeating the rot ravaging the land. The stakes couldn’t be higher. The coveted child they seek is said to be an abomination. He is also their son.

It’s a daunting challenge. Their child is in the hands of a deceitful enemy who has fled to a mysterious ruler, a rival deity with unfathomable powers pledged to destroy the goddess and eradicate stonewising from the world. Worse yet, the land is engulfed in strife, the rot is spreading faster than ever, and Kael is haunted by a malevolent curse compelling him to kill the woman he loves.

In a dangerous journey fraught with shocking twists, Sariah and Kael must do more than defeat their foes, unravel the mystifying forces vying to control their lives, and discover the mysteries of ages past. They must challenge the stones, defy the goddess and confront their cursed fates. Because only by embracing their destinies do they stand a chance to save their child and their world.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Anthony Sunderland & Win TWO eBooks!

Oh my, oh my…. it just keeps getting better! Readers, you have an awesome opportunity to leave a comment and win BOTH eBooks in the Destiny’s Daughter series. How cool is that???

And trust me, you WANT to read these exciting stories by Anthony Sunderland. The man is so interesting and talented –  how could he conjure up anything less than top notch entertainment? Read my interview below, check out the blurb for Destiny’s Daughter – Hide and Seek – then leave a comment to enter the contest. One lucky visitor will snag the first two eBooks in this fascinating series. It might be YOU!

MEET THE AUTHOR:  Anthony Sunderland

I’m happy to welcome Anthony Sunderland, author, screenwriter and adventurer.  Anthony, you’ve written screenplays and pursued graphic novels but in the end, you decided to join the ranks of Indie authors. What led you to this decision?

I think the truth is that I finally opened my eyes to what was right in front of me. I learned the hard way how tough selling screenplays is, though I will carry on pitching them. Going down the graphic novel route let me keep more control, or so I thought.

I got some great design concepts done by two students, Anna and Kelsey, at the local college but putting together a team to produce the story proved difficult. I did find an artist but we couldn’t agree on a payment schedule for $20,000.

Writing description for an artist or filmmaker to interpret is massively different to describing settings and events to readers so I put off writing in novel form for as long as I could. I want to tell these stories, to share them with the world so I worked with someone to adapt one story from screen format to prose.

Destiny’s Daughter was already written as a short story that I wanted to enter into the “Writers of the Future” competition. The concept, together with several ideas for TV show episodes had also been a finalist in the “People’s Pilot” competition.

The short answer to all of the above is that the Kindle is the simplest way to get the stories out to the world.

Tell us a little bit about your recent release, “Destiny’s Daughter – Hide and Seek”. It’s the second book in the series. Will there be more?

U.S. Marine John Bishop was abducted by aliens while home on medical leave from the first Iraq war. In a chance encounter with Dawn in the present day he claims to have seen her as a young girl on a spaceship.

He later abducts her, determined to find out what the aliens did to him. Even if Dawn escapes will this lead to her mission being uncovered?

In this story I can give more of her backstory, spell out the dangers she faces, and give the Greaes a reason to implant a communication device in her head. I’ve also sewn a tiny seed of what will become a shocking revelation much later on.

Dawn has studied the human race but there are many harsh lessons for her to learn, and here she learns about the savagery people will subject others to.

There will be as many stories as I can think up original mysteries for her to investigate. There’s also the threads to deal with of the captured alien, the true nature of the boy on the crashed shuttle, and preventing the military from harnessing its technology.

Volume III involves a top secret submarine damaged in a massive explosion, Langan’s Daughter, tiny life forms that can join together to form a larger creature, and a threat to global security.

This ends with another painful lesson for Dawn and a twist in the tail. We already see her do things that seem irrational at first, until her true motives and loyalties are revealed. We will see her behavior change in reaction to her experiences. Several people who cross her are going to meet with a grisly fate. This sequence of events will culminate with the revelation mentioned above.

Where do you find the seeds of inspiration that eventually sprout roots and become a book?

From asking, What If? Reading and hearing about strange things that happen in nature. Vol IV was inspired by an artist who makes things out of old car parts. It will feature an old woman’s lost cat returning in the middle of the night. Bit of a stretch from car parts but I don’t want to give anything away.

You live in West Yorkshire but Destiny’s Daughter takes place in the United States. Why did you choose this location?

I’ve been asked this question about a couple of stories. I’ll be honest; partly to appeal to the biggest audience. Part of this is because the Mid-West is the main area for alien abduction claims so it would make sense for the FBI office to be there.

Also they could use the extensive network of caves, caverns, and some manmade tunnels to hide alien artifacts and technology.

The Destiny’s Daughter series has a recurring theme of Alien contact. If you met an Alien in a remote location away from media and government scrutiny, what three questions would you ask?

  • How does our world compare to yours?
  • What do you want here?
  • Will you take me with you on your next journey?

You’ve also written a screenplay about a superhero, currently a popular theme with movie goers. Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider, Hulk had an experiment go wrong, Superman came from another planet. What special skills does your superhero have and how did he/she acquire them?

In the superhero/horror screenplay the protagonist, Kirsten, was abducted by devil worshippers intent on offering her as a sacrifice. Their plans were thwarted by the intervention of their nemesis, Johann.

In their desperation to escape they leave her for dead in a wrecked motorhome. When she wakes up she accidentally drinks the potion that gives them superhuman strength. It also makes her as psychotic as them.

It gives her the power to fight off a pack of ravenous wolves and she sets out for revenge acting and hunting as a wolf (after an ordeal that I won’t go into here)

No superhero ever asked for their powers and all have suffered great loss to attain them. Kirsten is no different and she is in grave danger of being killed by the good guys as well as bad, unless some power can reach any shred of humanity buried beneath the darkness she has descended into.

You’ve put together a list of adventurous activities on a “bucket list”, and have already accomplished several of them such as fire-eating and bungee jumping. What is the most daring feat you’ve experienced to date?

Each one presents its own challenges. I think the most terrifying thing was going on a weekend singing course and getting up to sing solo in front of a room full of people on the Sunday. Fortunately no video of it exists.

You still hold a “day job” as an electrician. What tips can you give other authors who juggle careers with writing?

Switch off the TV, unless you’ve set your exercise machine up in front of it. Set a goal and a timetable, and stick to them. Join a good writers’ group and a good forum because you need to communicate with people who understand our passion and need to write.

Schedule breaks and days off, and take them to relax and reward yourself.

Fortunately I was able to reduce my hours to three days a week, but time was still very tight.

If you found a magic stone that allowed you to travel back in time to any era, any location, where would you go and why?

From a purely selfish point of view, back to the turn of the century with all my finished work in hand. I would then be ready for the graphic novel and ebook explosions.

Alternatively to the fall of the Berlin wall. I’d love to have witnessed the fall of communism first hand, and have even a tiny piece of the rubble as a momento.

About the Author

I live in Halifax, UK.

I’m a long time Sci Fi, fantasy, and horror nut. I was inspired to start writing by the season one finale of Buffy TVS.

I’ll try just about anything once – fire eating, parachuting, I’m a qualified glider pilot, and want to do the bungee jump from the Bloukrans Bridge in South Africa.
